Severn Valley Water Management Scheme Consultation

19/12/25

Severn Valley Water Management Scheme (SVWMS) has launched a public consultation on how nature-based solutions and traditional engineering can reduce flood risk and support communities in the upper Severn catchment.

The SVWMS are inviting communities, partners and stakeholders to share their views on how water can be better managed in the catchment to reduce flood risk and build long-term resilience. You can view the consultation documents and share your views here: https://severnvalleywatermanagementscheme.commonplace.is/proposals/severn-valley-water-management-strategy-public-consultation/step1

Communities across the Severn catchment are facing more frequent and intense flooding events, with each event bringing more stress and anxiety. We must support flooded communities by delivering the right solution, in the right place. Local knowledge of flooding must form part of the strategy to deliver flood risk reduction in the upper Severn catchment and NFF encourage communities to take part in this consultation and share your local priorities.

We believe the final SVWMS strategy (due to be published Summer 2027) deserves full support of Government to ensure the flooded communities in this catchment, both present and future, see the full flood risk reduction potential realised.
